Nick Newlin Death : With profound sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Nick Newlin, a beloved Charlotte native and proud alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), who passed away on December 3, 2024, at the age of 28. Nick’s loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will forever remain a cherished part of our lives.
Born on March 12, 1996, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Nick was the son of Mark and Elizabeth Newlin. From a young age, he was known for his radiant smile, boundless energy, and insatiable curiosity. Nick’s natural leadership qualities and unwavering drive were evident throughout his life. He was a person who embodied kindness and humility, building deep connections with others and constantly striving to help those around him. His family remembers him as a loving son, brother, and friend who had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued.
Nick graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. His time at UNC Charlotte was transformative, both academically and personally. He formed lasting relationships with peers, professors, and mentors, many of whom were inspired by his dedication to both his studies and the community. Nick was deeply involved in student organizations and volunteer efforts, always seeking ways to make a positive impact. His work with mentorship programs and various campus initiatives reflected his commitment to lifting others up.
After graduating, Nick remained in Charlotte, launching a successful career in business consulting. His colleagues described him as a hardworking, intelligent, and team-oriented individual, always striving for excellence while uplifting others in his workplace. His contributions to every project and his ability to motivate and inspire those around him made him a highly respected figure in his field. Outside of work, Nick had a passion for sports and the outdoors. He was an avid fan of college basketball, and his loyalty to the UNC Charlotte 49ers was unwavering. Nick also loved exploring the natural beauty of North Carolina, whether hiking, kayaking, or simply spending time in the woods.
His love for adventure was matched only by his warmth and the joy he found in spending time with friends and family. Nick’s personal life was a testament to his caring nature. He had a wide circle of friends who were drawn to his sense of humor, generosity, and genuine spirit. Nick was a friend you could always count on, a person who made others feel seen and appreciated. Whether with his family or friends, Nick always made time for the people he loved, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. Those who had the privilege of knowing Nick will remember his infectious laugh, his kindness, and his belief in the goodness of others. His light-hearted nature and positive energy brightened every room he entered, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who loved him.
Nick’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his compassion, his generosity, and his commitment to making the world a better place. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Nick was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Eleanor Johnson, and his paternal grandfather, James Newlin. He is survived by his parents, Mark and Elizabeth Newlin; his younger sister, Jessica Newlin; his beloved dog, Toby; and many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of Nick’s life will be held on December 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Eastover Community Church, 2100 Eastover Road, Charlotte, NC. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the UNC Charlotte Scholarship Fund, supporting students pursuing careers in business and community service. The family of Nick Newlin wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and condolences during this difficult time. Nick was a cherished son, brother, and friend, and his passing has left an unimaginable sorrow in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family takes comfort in the many beautiful memories they have of Nick and in the knowledge that his legacy will continue through the lives he touched. They respectfully ask for privacy as they grieve, but are profoundly moved by the kindness and care shown by the community during these trying moments. Nick’s spirit will live on through the generosity he shared, the kindness he extended, and the love he left behind. Nick will forever be in our hearts, and his memory will never fade.
